Risk Watch is a new, innovative injury prevention program, aimed at reducing the number of children injured or killed by preventable accidents.
In Canada, injuries are the leading cause of death for children over one year of age. Risk Watch helps kids beat the odds. With proper education, children can learn to be much safer and prevent injuries. Risk Watch is perfect for schools as well as educational programs in Fire Departments, hospitals, and other community agencies. Risk Watch gives kids the skills and knowledge they need to recognize and avoid risks.
Taken from the brochure developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Lowe’s Home Safety Council. Risk Watch is a trade mark of NFPA.
Teachers will like Risk Watch because it is a flexible curriculum that will easily integrate into subjects such as health, language arts or physical education. Each unit includes a lesson card for every risk area, a lesson plan and step-by-step procedures for engaging classroom activities.
The Risk Watch curriculum addresses the eight major areas in which the most children are killed or injured each year:
- Firearms Injury Prevention
- Fire and Burn Prevention
- Bike and Pedestrian Safety
- Water Safety
- Choking, Suffocation and Strangulation Prevention
- Motor Vehicle Safety
- Falls Prevention
- Poisoning Prevention
