By-law #2019-071

The Town of East Gwillimbury is committed to ensuring its facilities and public spaces are healthy, safe and accessible for all residents, visitors, and staff. As part of that commitment, on June 4, 2019, Council of the Town of East Gwillimbury passed the following resolution which enacted By-law #2019-07:

  • Joint Legal & Council Support Services and Emergency & Community Safety Services Report LCSS2019-07: Cannabis & Smoking By-law
  • BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Joint Legal & Council Support Services and Emergency & Community Safety Services Report LCSS 2019-07, dated May 22, 2019, entitled "Cannabis & Smoking By-law", be received; and
  • THAT Council enact a by-law to prohibit smoking and vaping on all municipal property; and,
  • THAT Staff undertake a community engagement program to publicize the purpose of the by-law; and
  • THAT Staff monitor the enforcement and outcomes of the by-law, and provide further updates to Council.

The by-law prohibits smoking or vaping of any substance on all municipal property including parking lots. The new by-law was in effect as of June 4, 2019 and replaces the previous by-law which banned smoking in relation to public features (such as parks, buildings etc.).
