Changes for the 2018 Municipal Election

On the 19th of September, 2017, the Council of the Corporation of the Town of East Gwillimbury passed By-law 2017-132

This By-law enacts the change in council composition and the transition from the at-large system to a ward system. The change entails the addition of two members of Council and three wards to represent the Town of East Gwillimbury.

Electoral Review Final Map - Updated

As a result of this change, there will be a total of two councillors elected per ward, along with an at-large Mayor for the Town of East Gwillimbury, which totals to 7 members of Council representing the Town of East Gwillimbury

Regional Chair Election

The Town of East Gwillimbury is one of nine local municipalities that make up the upper tier regional government, known as the Regional Municipality of York. Historically, the Regional Chair was appointed by elected members; however, in the upcoming 2018 Municipal election, electors in York Region will have the opportunity to vote for their Regional Chair.

Your Ballot 

In the 2018 Municipal Election, eligible EG electors will be voting for the following offices: 

  • Regional Chair;  
  • 1 Mayor;
  • 2 Councillors (for your designated ward);
  • York Catholic District School Board Trustee;
  • York Region District School Board Trustee;
  • Counseil scolaire Viamonde Trustee (filed with the Clerk of the City of Markham); and
  • Counseil scolaire catholique Mon Avenir Trustee (filed with the Clerk of the City of Markham)
