Electoral Review - Council Decision

At the Council meeting held on September 19, 2017, Council passed a resolution and By-law 2017-132 to add two additional Councillors and establish ward boundaries through a Three-Ward Model. This model was “Option 2” in the recent public consultation process. In this model the Mayor will remain elected at-large and six-ward Councillors will be elected to represent the three-wards (two Councillors per ward).


By-law 2017-132 provides for the division of East Gwillimbury into three wards, as follows:

Notice of the passing of the by-law to change the composition of council and establish ward boundaries for the Town Of East Gwillimbury

TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the Corporation of the Town of East Gwillimbury passed By-law 2017-132 on the 19th day of September, 2017 pursuant to Sections 217(1) and 222 (1) of the Municipal Act, S.O. 2001, c.25

AND TAKE NOTICE that By-law 2017-132 provides for the division of East Gwillimbury into three wards (please refer to map above). 

AND TAKE NOTICE that pursuant to Subsection 222(4) of the Municipal Act, 2001, any person or agency may within 45 days of the passing of the by-law submit an appeal to the Ontario Municipal Board with respect to the establishment of wards pursuant to Section 222 (1) Municipal Act, 2001. An appeal must be filed with the Municipal Clerk of the Corporation of the Town of East Gwillimbury at the address below, not later than the 3rd day of November, 2017, setting out the objections to the by-law and the reasons in support of the objections. This notice of appeal must be accompanied by a certified cheque or money order in the amount of $300.00 made payable to the Minister of Finance and the Town’s fee of $206.00 payable to the Town of East Gwillimbury by cash, cheque, bank draft, money order, credit card or debit card.
