James R. Young, Councillor

Councillor Young Bio ImageCouncillor James R. Young began with the Town of East Gwillimbury at the age of 19 when he was elected to Council in 1994. In 2000 he was elected Mayor and also became the Town's representative on York Region Council.  At the Region, Jamie served on a number of committees and was Chair of the Planning and Economic Development Committee. During that time, he was also the Region’s appointee to the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority Board of Directors for 7 years.

In late 2010 after 16 years of service, Jamie chose to take a hiatus from public office to spend more time with his wife Heather and their two children, Cally and Jaxon. In his time off, Jamie produced and hosted two television programs. Perspectives with Jamie Young and Civic Central which aired on Rogers TV York Region from 2011 to 2014.

After four years away from the municipality, Jamie was elected to Council in 2014, a position he filled 20 years earlier.

As a lifelong resident of East Gwillimbury, Jamie is still committed and proud to make this community a place where we all can live, work, play and raise a family.

This term, Councillor Young will chair Development Services and is the Council Liaison to the Economic Development Advisory Committee and the Santa Claus Parade Committee. He is also the Town’s liaison to the Sharon Temple Historic Site and Museum Board of Directors.
