John Eaton, Councillor

John has been a resident of East Gwillimbury for 23 years and looks forward to the opportunity of representing you as a Councillor for the next 4 years. He is passionate in his belief that East Gwillimbury will continue to be the best place to live in York Region and is committed to ensuring that our future growth will meet the needs of the residents.

His background as a business professional in the telecommunications industry for 35 years provides him with management expertise in financial planning, tender and contract negotiations and customer service. John has a B.A in Economics from the University of Western Ontario and Business Planning, Finance and Marketing courses from York University. His ability to work successfully with people, determine their needs and then provide solutions gives him the necessary skills and dedication to represent you.

John has been a volunteer member of the East Gwillimbury Business Development Committee and was Chair from 2005-2009. He was awarded the Advisory Committee’s “Volunteer of the Year” award in 2005 and 2006. The committee has been involved in the following initiatives to promote business opportunities: Business Retention and Expansion Survey, Sharon Temple Fundraising, Broadband Telecommunications Analysis, Business Development Video and the East Gwillimbury Farmer’s Market. He has also participated as a residential stakeholder on the Upper York Region Sewage Solutions Committee, promoted South Lake Community Futures Federal Government business funding to local businesses, and has been an active participant at Chamber of Commerce events.

John’s corporate experience was based on a team approach and he looks forward to working with Council and town staff to ensure the growth and land use decisions in our community are consistent with the Official Plan.

Message to Residents: East Gwillimbury is a wonderful location to raise a family and I look forward to addressing your ongoing questions and concerns. My wife Donna and I have lived in East Gwillimbury since 1987 and I want to ensure our future growth respects the desires of the residents.
