Property Standards Committee

The Town of East Gwillimbury has set standards for the maintenance and occupancy of properties within its boundaries.  The function of this committee is to hear appeals, filed by owners or occupants of property within the Town of East Gwillimbury, after they have been served with an order to maintain their property according to the standards prescribed by Town By-Law.

Roles and Responsibilities

This committee is composed of residents of the Town, appointed by Council for a three year term. They have the following powers under the Ontario Building Code Act.

  • they can confirm the order or orders served by the Town
  • they can quash the order
  • they can amend the order or extend the deadline for compliance

Examples

  • properties laden with debris
  • unsightly vegetation
  • conditions that constitute a health, fire or accident hazard
