The Town's Thinking Green! program is a comprehensive sustainability program committed to protecting the environment, enhancing economic prosperity, and improving the health and lifestyle of our community. Outlined below are a number of programs offered at the local, Provincial and Federal levels, which promote sustainable business practices.
ecoENERGY Retrofit Incentive for Industries
Natural Resources Canada's (NRCan's) ecoENERGY Retrofit program is designed to help industrial facilities overcome financial barriers to improving the energy efficiency of their operations.
NRCan will provide a financial incentive of up to 25 percent of project costs to a maximum of $50,000 per application and $250,000 per corporate entity to help small and medium-sized industrial facilities implement energy-saving projects.

ecoEnergy for Renewable Power
The Government of Canada’s ecoENERGY for Renewable Power program will invest $1.48 billion to increase Canada's supply of clean electricity from renewable sources such as wind, biomass, low-impact hydro, geothermal, solar photovoltaic and ocean energy. It will encourage the production of new electricity from renewable energy sources, enough electricity to power about one million homes.
ecoENERGY for Renewable Power will provide an incentive of one cent per kilowatt-hour for up to 10 years to eligible low-impact, renewable electricity projects constructed over the next four years.
Who Can Apply?
A Business, municipality, institution or organization (e.g. an independent power producer, a provincial Crown corporation, an electrical utility or energy co-operative) that owns a qualifying project to produce electricity for sale in Canada, for use by its co-op members for its own consumption.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (L.E.E.D)TM
In September 2006, Council passed a resolution adopting a municipal policy requiring all new indsutrial, commercial, institutional facilities, as well as multi-unit residential buildings within the Town to be built LEED (NC) Canada Version 1.0 standards. The Town's LEED policy encourages the employment sector to become more sustainable.
