Mount Albert Downtown Revitalization

In 2011, Mount Albert participated in the First Impressions Community Exchange (FICE) program with the village of Schomberg. The findings from this exchange provided invaluable insight on the strengths and challenges of Downtown Mount Albert that were experienced by first-time visitors. Based on the information gathered, the need for a Downtown Revitalization Strategy and Community Improvement Plan has resulted. The community of Mount Albert’s Downtown Revitalization Strategy was launched in fall 2013.

This project is a collaborative effort between Town staff, South lake Community Futures Development Corporation (SLCFDC), community groups and organizations such as the Mount Albert Village Association (MAVA), the Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC), the East Gwillimbury Chamber of Commerce, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food (OMAF), as well as community members and any businesses that want to be involved with the project.

The intent of the Mount Albert Downtown Revitalization Strategy and Community Improvement Plan is to articulate a vision for Downtown Mount Albert and establish a strategy for revitalization and economic development.  The Strategy and Plan is designed to stimulate redevelopment and investment in the downtown core through the use of tools and incentives for the private sector together with public sector investment by the Town and its partners.

The Mount Albert Downtown Revitalization Strategy and Community Improvement Plan was fully endorsed by Council on August 25, 2014. In addition, on September 29, 2014 Council endorsed the Mount Albert Downtown Revitalization Implementation Plan.
