Storm Update

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for the April 13-15 weekend. A low pressure system is approaching southern Ontario and has the potential to be a serious ice storm for some regions with ice accumulations in excess of 25mm possible. Rainfall of 25-45mm is possible on Sunday as the freezing rain changes to rain.

If you have an emergency with regards to water, sewers, roads, or parks, please call 1-866-262-4157 and your call will be answered.

Updates

  • All Town facilities, including both library locations, remain closed today (April 15th) and all programs and facility booking cancelled. 
  • Holland River and Soldier’s Bay water level are being reported as high. With pending rain and ice melt, local flooding could be possible, stay back from all water ways.
  • With the freezing rain coming down roads crews are out salting the roads. Please drive cautiously and avoid travelling if possible. 

Avoid the risk

  • Emergency and Community Safety Services is recommending that residents avoid all unnecessary travel. When it comes to ice storms, conditions can deteriorate quickly. Make alternate arrangements, or re-schedule unnecessary travel.
  • Roads crews will be out salting and responding in the event of a storm. Please be cautious and leave space around vehicles.
  • Residents are reminded that if they see a downed hydro pole to stay at least a bus length back. Wires have an electrical charge and cause serious harm. Stay back and call Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235.
