Children of Peace Park

Project Background

Children of Peace Park is located within the Sharon Village Development between Leslie Street and Sharonview Crescent and is 2.3 hectares (5.7 Acres) in size. The park is located adjacent to the national historic Sharon Temple site and is within the Town's Civic Centre Precinct study area. The park block was strategically chosen within the Sharon Village development by staff to ensure public lands could be secured to celebrate and highlight the history of the Sharon Temple and to provide a large natural buffer between the new development and the historic site. Park elements within the concept design will include:

  • Prominent Gateway architectural columns at the Leslie Street Entrance
  • Gated access to the Temple grounds for users to experience both sites
  • Open lawn gathering and events space with shade structure gazebo
  • Premier Floral garden contemplative area
  • Amphitheatre production area for small groups of 20-30 people
  • Commissioned art sculptures
  • Naturalized retrofit wetland area with viewing areas

Project Update

Children of Peace Park is substantially complete and currently open to the public. Perennial gardens, historic interpretive signage and custom flags will be completed in the Spring of 2021.
